We are delighted to welcome the latest member organisation to join the GLCC ‘family’. Lung Connect India is a support, information and advocacy group based in Mumbai. They have a reach extending across the whole nation.

Who are they?

From their website:

”We believe that knowledge is power. By providing comprehensive educational resources, we aim to empower patients and their families with the information they need to make informed decisions about their health and treatment options. Our advocacy efforts focus on raising awareness, influencing policy changes, and ensuring that lung cancer patients receive the best possible care and support.

Our community is the heart of Lung Connect. We offer a supportive environment where individuals can connect, share experiences, and find strength in one another. Through our programs and services, we strive to make the lung cancer journey more manageable and less isolating.

Lung cancer carries a heavy stigma, often unfairly associated solely with smokers. We address this issue by promoting a more compassionate and informed perspective. We conduct educational campaigns to highlight the various causes of lung cancer beyond smoking. By sharing patient stories that challenge the smoking stereotype and fostering support groups that welcome everyone regardless of background, we create a more inclusive and understanding community.

Additionally, our advocacy for research into non-smoking causes of lung cancer emphasizes the importance of broader awareness and earlier detection strategies for all individuals facing this disease.”

What they do

Lung Connect aims to focus on three key areas of activity:

  1. Patient Navigation. Supporting people with lung cancer through their patient journey with care, information and practical help.
  2. Patient Advocacy. Seeking ways to tackle the stigma surrounding lung cancer. Connecting patients with palliative and end -of-life care when needed. Campaigning for lung cancer to have ‘notifiable disease’ status which can bring financial support. Driving better access to molecular testing and targeted therapies, with regular CT and PET scans for those with lung cancer.
  3. Research and Clinical Trials. An emphasis on patient-centric studies, analysis and access to clinical trial programmes.
