GLCC Awards
The GLCC’s global awards for excellence in journalism recognise excellence in raising awareness of the world’s biggest cancer killer.
The awards were launched in 2011 and each member organisation is encouraged to nominate a recipient annually.
In recent years we have expanded the definition of ‘journalism’ to reflect the way that social media, digital platforms, news blogs and podcasts now cover much of the ground previously occupied by the established mainstream media such as press, radio and television.
We also recognise that in this new and fast-moving media environment podcasters, bloggers and social media influencers play an important role in the way information is shared.
The outstanding efforts of individuals or groups operating outside the traditional mainstream media can often produce outstandingly effective work. Such work can significantly raise awareness of lung cancer and matters surrounding it.
The GLCC therefore encourages members to recognise such efforts with a ‘Special Award’ for outstanding contributions.
2024 Special Recognition Award presented by our member organisation in Portugal, Pulmonale.
Pulmonale is the Portuguese Association for the Fight Against Lung Cancer , a non-profit association made up of healthcare professionals, patients and the general public.
From its website: ”Health literacy, prevention and early diagnosis are our priorities. Equal access to timely and appropriate treatment is also an important issue for us.”
This year, Pulmonale has made its Special Recognition Award to the MUCHE creative team, to honour the excellence of their work about the relevance of lung cancer screening, and their commitment to improving awareness of lung cancer and outcomes for people diagnosed with it.
The MUCHE creative agency works closely with Pulmonale, assisting with their work in sharing information and raising awareness of lung cancer. You can see some of their work here.
Isabel Maria Camanho Morais Barbedo de Magalhães, President of Pulmonale, said:
“We are very proud to announce that @MUCHE has been awarded the ‘Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Raising Awareness of Lung Cancer’ by the Global Lung Cancer Coalition (GLCC) and Pulmonale.
This award is a well-deserved recognition of MUCHE’s exceptional work in promoting and raising awareness of the implementation of lung cancer screening in Portugal, which has been instrumental in giving a voice to this cause.
Together we can go further, inspire more people and shine the light at the end of the tunnel for early detection of lung cancer.”
